I found this article while searching for Tolkien society websites. What an interesting read: Translation Journal To the side of the article it also talks about a Professor Hooker: Mr. Hooker is a scholar at the Russian and East European Institute at Indiana University, where he works on Comparative Translation Studies, specializing in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. He is widely published in the Tolkien specialist periodical press both in the United States, in Holland, and in Russia. He is the author of Tolkien Through Russian Eyes, Walking Tree Publishers, 2003, published simultaneously in Russian as Tolkin russkimi glazami. He is likewise a contributor to Translating Tolkien volumes 1 (and volume 2, planned for Spring 2004) by Walking Tree Press of Switzerland, and to Tolkien Studies, Verlyn Flieger (ed.). His review of the Russian translation of Gerald Durrell's The Battle for Castle Cockatrice (Previously published as The Talking Parcel) appeared in the April 2004 issue of Translation Journal. Mr. Hooker will be making two presentations at MythCon XXXIV, the premier North-American Tolkien conference. He will also be making a presentation on 24 July 2004 in Leiden, Holland, at the "Den Swarte Draeck" a smial of the Dutch Tolkien Society. Someone new we can check out. I know the dates are old...but it still tells us something about this Professor. I'll be putting the Journal Translation website in the Library Resource thread. What a find! ;D
